Rain/Light Sensor
Small gel pack adhered to the windshield either by the rear view mirror or the lower right hand side of the windshield. If you are unsure, you can know because if you have a rain sensor, when it begins to rain, your wipers will likely turn on automatically.
Heated Wiper Area
Heat lines (often quite hidden) that run underneath the area that your wipers sit. You may or may not have a deicer button inside to manually turn them on.
Shade Band
Similar to the third visor, its objective is to keep the sun out of your eyes however, instead of being only behind the rear view mirror, it is a band of tint (blue, green, gray, bronze) that runs along the top of your windshield.
Third Visor
A black shading in your windshield that sits behind your rear view mirror. It is designed to help keep sun out of your eyes that would usually make its way through the middle of your windshield even with your visors down.
Electrochromic Mirror
The rearview mirror on the windshield dim automatically when a car is behind you with its head lights on.
In short, this is a mirror that has electrical components and that automatically adjusts to night driving (auto dimming). The easiest ways to know if you have one is if you have anything like a compass in your mirror or if you do not have a "tab" sticking out the bottom of the mirror to manually adjust for night driving.
Acoustic Interlayer
Acoustic windshields are made of a layer of sound-absorbent vinyl sandwiched between two sheets of glass. It reduces noise levels by as much as 6dB between 1500Hz and 5000Hz, and 2 to 3dB overall, which allows conversation and audio to be heard more clearly.
Heads Up Display (HUD)
Some vehicles actually project certain information on to the windshield (such as speed, temperature, navigation instructions etc.). It is designed for the driver to be able to keep an eye on the important information about the vehicle without taking your eyes off the road.
Lane Departure Warning / Forward Collision Alert
If the vehicle is equipped with the Active Driving Assistant that includes the Lane Departure Warning system alerts you if you attempt to change lanes without using your turn signal.
A small camera mounted between the windshield and rearview mirror can track lane markings on the road, and if it determines that the driver is making an unintended departure from a detected lane, visual and audible alerts warn the driver.
Forward Collision Alert: A small camera mounted between the windshield and rearview mirror can detect the presence of vehicles in front of you. Forward Collision Alert system calculates that you are at risk of a collision, it immediately activates visual and/or audible alerts driver is at risk of hitting the vehicle ahead.
Privacy Glass
Privacy glass provide give more privacy when you are inside your vehicle, plus they help dissipate the heat outside, making your car's interior cooler and helping your air conditioning run more efficiently.
Privacy glass is known for giving privacy and allowing very little light inside your automobile. It consists of a glass that is naturally less transparent than other glasses; consequently, this type of shading lasts as long as the glass doesn't crack. A privacy glass is placed by the factory that manufactures your automobile, or by the factory that you specifically contract to make privacy glass windows for your car. Generally, the privacy glass is used on a car's back windows.
